DIY Fall Candles
Ever wanted to make your own candles? I have a slight candle OBSESSION. Bath and Body Works and Anthropologie candles are my vibe. Well I've been making my own candles on and off, as well as continuing to buy because why not?! But I recently decided to try my hand it making FALL candles.
It's actually easier than you think. My hubs and I went on a date night to Candle Chemistry and I was like - this is so easy I can do this at home! You'll need the following supplies (Links will be at the bottom):
-Candle wax flakes (the link below comes with other supplies too so win win!)
-Containers (I either re-use old ones or thrift them)
-Double boiler/pouring pot (to melt the wax in)
-Fragrance or essential oils
-Optional - dried flowers (but be careful, these can be flammable)
I start by boiling water in a large pot and then put the wax flakes in the pouring pot. You put the pouring pot over the boiling water and stir until melted. While that is melting, you can either hot glue or use glue dots to glue the wicks down. Depending on the size of the candles I do 1-3 wicks. Then I start to figure out my fragrance. I just googled how much fragrance oil to use for how many ounces of wax. This helped so that my candles will smell when being used. Once the wax is melted, I pour the wax in each container and then pour my fragrance in. I sometimes use a shot glass or another container so that I know how much fragrance oil I'm putting in. Then I stir it and set it out to harden. You can use either popsicle sticks or the wax flake box I bought comes with wick holders. You want the wicks to stay in place when hardening. If you are going to put dried flowers in, try to keep an eye on your candles and then put them in when the top is starting to get hard. I waited a little too long on my one above, so lesson learned. Usually they harden overnight! Then I store them in my linen closet until it's time to use them!
There are so many recipes online for fragrances, especially copycat to the brand name ones. I'll link below some of my favorites, including the volcano one which is a dupe for the Anthro candle! I absolutely love making these and feel like in the long run I'm saving money and I feel like the wax I use is probably healthier for my house.
Anyways, good luck and let me know if you have any questions!! 💗
